Experts in high-quality propagation material for peonies and Oriental poppies
With over 25 years of experience, Van Dongen Plants is a trusted specialist in the cultivation, processing, packing and worldwide supply of peonies, both as cut flowers and roots. For many years, all peonies were marketed under the name Vernooy Plants. In 2024, Oriental poppies were added to the assortment, further strengthening the company’s position as a specialised grower.
Since 1 December 2025, the business has continued under its own name: Van Dongen Plants. The company focuses exclusively on the production of premium propagation material for peonies and Oriental poppies. Every step of the process — cultivation, processing, hot water treatment, packaging and export — is carried out in-house. This full control guarantees consistent quality, reliability and traceability.
Quality has always been the foundation of the company. This clear focus has allowed Van Dongen Plants to grow into an innovative, flexible and customer-oriented partner for growers around the world.
Over 100 peony varieties in production
Van Dongen Plants sets itself apart by specialising in the production of young, vigorous and uniform propagation material. Only carefully selected, high-quality peony roots are supplied, ensuring strong establishment and reliable performance for growers.
Because Van Dongen Plants also grows peonies for cut flower production and pot plants, practical cultivation knowledge is directly applied to propagation and customer advice. This hands-on experience allows the company to support customers with expert guidance tailored to their market and production goals.
Peony roots are supplied worldwide. All hot water treatments, phytosanitary inspections and export documentation are handled in-house, enabling smooth logistics and dependable delivery. At Van Dongen Plants, the customer always comes first — services and solutions are gladly aligned with your specific requirements.

ORIENTAL POPPIES
In 2024, Van Dongen Plants took over the cultivation of Oriental poppies from Leo and Arnold van Berkel. The company now grows approximately 35 carefully selected varieties. Although Oriental poppies are a relatively new crop within the business, they align perfectly with Van Dongen Plants’ expertise and quality-driven approach.
Oriental poppies are a demanding crop, requiring precision and experience. Thanks to close cooperation and ongoing support from Leo and Arnold van Berkel, Van Dongen Plants has been able to develop this crop successfully. The assortment continues to expand, with a strong focus on distinctive colours, robust varieties and consistent performance.
