1999
Harry van Dongen began growing his first peonies
In 1999, founder Harry van Dongen began growing his first peonies alongside his study in International Agricultural Trade at Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in Deventer. What started as a focus on cut flowers soon expanded into root production.
Harry gained extensive hands-on experience working with Paul Vernooy during weekends and holidays. Together with Paul — and later Ben and Rian — the plants were marketed under the name Vernooy Plants

2024
In 2024, Van Dongen Plants took over the cultivation of oriental poppies from Leo and Arnold van Ber
